St. Johns Remodel

This one-level St. Johns remodel originally had walls completely enclosing the kitchen, limiting its size and usability. Walls were removed from around the kitchen and a uselessly small bedroom to allow for better circulation in the living space. The closet from the old bedroom was converted into a simple alcove with a built-in to service the living area.

Hardwood flooring was reused to extend into the new kitchen. The salvaged material was interwoven into the existing floors in that area so there would be no visible seams between the new and the old installations. Custom flush-mount floor registers blend into the floors, eliminating barriers and providing a seamless finished look.

The expanded kitchen features custom cabinetry by Huntwood Cabinets.  Sparkling white countertops sit on dark painted shaker style cabinets, while bright white flat panel wall cabinets draw the eye up. Butcher block countertops are thrown in to the mix to add warmth and variety. The large kitchen island features quartz waterfall edges on both sides and Edison bulb pendants above.

All-new electrical service throughout the home added more efficient LED fixtures, helping the owners save on future power bills. Plumbing improvements included a new water heater and heat pump that allowed for more efficient use of energy and heat in the home. Stainless plumbing fixtures and a farmer’s sink replaced the outdated ones, and gold-finish cabinet pulls complement the white and navy high contrast color scheme.
