Basement Bathroom Remodel – Portland

This SW Portland home had a basement master suite with a cramped, outdated master bathroom adjacent to an unusually large half bath for guests. Elements of the master bath were spaced far apart yet were too small, with no real vanity or counter to speak of.

The space was transformed into a large and comfortable bath with a large curbless walk-in shower and spacious vanity. The guest bath was reduced in size to its necessary components, a toilet and small vanity. Blue paint, tile backsplash and a decorative mirror give the small room its flair. Radiant floor heating in the master bath lends extra warmth in the cold months.

The windows in the master were the most challenging aspects of this project. Originally in separate rooms, the windows had unusual placement in the new space, and cutting the foundation wall to place new windows was out of the question. The solution became to use the window as an anchor to place other elements so that everything in the room read as intentional. The result is a beautiful and spacious feeling bathroom that manages to remain light and bright even in a basement.
